Advanced ColdFusion / Flex Developer (.NET a Plus)

A dynamic, fast-paced financial services company seeking an experienced professional ColdFusion / Flex applications developer to support and enhance our data aggregation and visualization technologies, analytics platform and participate in many other projects managed by the company and related companies within the family. ABOUT THE COMPANY:

We service investment management firms, broker / dealers and researchers in the capital markets, by providing them with comprehensive data aggregation and analytics solutions in support of high dollar, mission critical financial transactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design / develop / maintain and enhance web-based analytics applications and components written in ColdFusion and VB.NET
• Develop rich, dynamic data visualizations using Flex
• Create software requirements and technical specifications
• Integrate disparate components into master application
• Define system flows and interfaces based on requirements
• Guide junior development efforts
• Maintain focus on priorities, and exhibit enthusiasm for creating high-quality professional software
• Possess excellent time management skills handling multiple priorities with individual deadlines
• Adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work creatively in a team environment as well as a sole contributor with little or no supervision – must think outside the box
• Possess excellent written and oral communication skills

TECHNICAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum 5 years of recent active experience in design, development and support of data-driven ColdFusion applications
• Minimum 2 years of recent active experience in design, development and support of Flex applications
• Minimum 3 years of recent active experience in complete development lifecycle including design, prototyping, development, deployment and support of data-driven web applications
• Platforms / Languages: ColdFusion MX/8/9 (must know components, arrays, structures), Flex 3 (know your components and charts),
• Database Technologies: MS SQL Server 2000-2008; Strong knowledge of general SQL, views, stored procedures, cursors and functions – consuming and manipulating data is 90% of this job.
• Server Technologies: Windows Server 2003-2008, IIS 6-7
• Applications: Adobe CS, CF Builder, Eclipse, Visual Studio, SQL Management Studio, MS Office (esp. Excel), MS Project, MS Visio (or similar UML / diagramming tool) and others at a minimum
• Comprehensive application development experience: strong code organization and management, experience developing in an MVC-based framework; experience with content management and source control systems (incl. open source such as Subversion, Bugzilla or similar)
• Knowledge and prior experience in end-to-end design, architecture, coding/development, and release of data-driven multi-user SaaS applications

ADDITIONAL BENEFICIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 3 years of recent active experience in design, development and support of .NET web applications

• Platforms/Languages.NET (C#, ASP, VB, current frameworks), VBA (esp. Excel VBA)

BENEFICIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with Flash, creating Air applications and/or Java
• Professional user interface layout and design
• Scripting languages and extensions: JavaScript, Ajax (understanding of browser technologies and Document Object Model), jQuery, AS
• Professional documentation development
• Desktop application development
• Additional SQL Server skills: SSIS, OLAP, SQL Report Writer
• Knowledge of alternative database technologies: MySQL, Oracle
• Good base of open source technologies and solutions for every day challenges
• XML–driven applications: XML, XSLT, XSL, Web services, SOAP
• Capital Markets; Structured Finance; Statistics: correlation & regression analysis

EDUCATION / OTHER EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum Bachelor of Science degree (Computer Science, Information Systems or a related scientific or technical degree)
• Completion of formal training in subject technologies is a plus, certifications are even better

COMMENTS:

This is hands-on development from day one. Persons best suited for this position are up-to-date developers with extensive experience creating data-driven web applications. You must possess sufficient technology and formal development skills to effectively manage both a single component of an application as well as end-to-end development of a software solution. The immediate need is for an advanced ColdFusion / Flex developer, who is also a very good .NET developer and able to develop / enhance / integrate between environments as needed. You must be a developer first, everything else second – this is not a job for a generalist. Possessing relevant knowledge of capital markets, financial instruments and financial analysis would be most advantageous. Comfort within an entrepreneurial environment is essential.
